How do you say this in German?
I live in Berlin.
German
Ich wohne in Berlin.
I live in Berlin.
Grammar

WOHNEN + IN

When talking about where someone lives, German commonly uses wohnen + in.

wohnen = to live / to reside
in = in

With most city names, in is followed directly by the city name without an article.

More examples
Ich wohne in München.
I live in Munich.
Sie wohnt in Hamburg.
She lives in Hamburg.
Attention

WOHNEN VS. LEBEN

wohnen focuses on where someone resides or has their home.

Ich wohne in Berlin.
I live / reside in Berlin.

leben is broader and can mean to live, to be alive, or to live one's life somewhere.

Ich lebe in Berlin.
I live in Berlin.

Both can be used with a city, but wohnen is more specifically about your place of residence, while leben describes living in a place more generally.

The o in wohne is long — the silent h just stretches it. Stress falls on WOH-ne.

EnglishI live in Berlin.

Berlin is common in beginner examples, but in real conversation you can swap in any city or neighborhood: Ich wohne in …
